Biography:
Kat is a genealogical researcher & family historian combing technical expertise with a compassionate, trauma-informed approach. Kat has supported clients removed from their families as part of the Stolen Generation, and Forgotten Australians placed into out-of-home care or impacted by forced adoption. Kat specialises in helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, and other people affected by cultural trauma and family disruption to reconnect with their kin and Country. Kat has assisted the descendants of Holocaust survivors to find their family stories and has extensive experience navigating complex archives, including state and national repositories, church records, and adoption and welfare files. With more than 25 years of experience in researching family history, Kat has operated her business, Brickwall Genealogy, since 2022. She has featured in Descent Magazine and expands her professional knowledge through continuing education. Kat has undertaken probate work for overseas clients and can be contacted about taking on work to locate estate heirs. Kat is a funded researcher for AIATSIS and a records searcher and family history tracer for the Find & Connect program, supporting clients based in the Northern Territory. Kat is based on the border of New South Wales and Queensland and can access repositories in person in Brisbane and Northern NSW. Kat also makes trips to the Northern Territory and can access archives there on occasion.
