Do I do a DNA test or don’t I? Received your results and have no idea where to start?
DNA is another tool to assist in researching your family history. However, like all tools, it requires analysis to retrieve information. Sometimes the number of matches can be overwhelming, other times the lack of matches becomes concerning. Unexpected results may be alarming and results that solve a mystery are very exciting.
If you are considering a DNA test, ask yourself, am I ready to accept whatever the results show? You see, paper documents can lie but DNA can’t. If you are open to accepting whatever the results show you then go ahead and test.
What’s next? There are many informative articles around regarding analysing your DNA results. In general, sorting matches into groups to work out where matches fit into your tree and then looking at the number of centimorgan each match is to work out the relationships or to try and solve a brick wall.
