Carlina Paul, QG: BCom (Management), PgCert Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies, PgDip (Distinction) Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies, MAAGRA
Researcher Type: Genealogist & Record Agent
Biography:
Carlina Paul is a genealogist originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, now based in Yugambeh Country on the Gold Coast, Australia. With a Postgraduate Diploma in Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde, where she graduated with Distinction, Carlina combines academic expertise with a deep personal connection to her work.
As a descendant of a New Zealand Māori adoptee, she is passionate about helping others uncover their whakapapa and discover their tūrangawaewae, or “place to stand.” Recognising the complexities involved in interpreting Māori DNA results, Carlina has pursued specialised training in strategies for navigating endogamy and DNA interpretation, allowing her to guide clients with skill and sensitivity.
Carlina’s expertise in both autosomal and Y-DNA testing has enabled many uncover their unknown Māori heritage, helping them reconnect with their whānau (extended family) and identify birth parents and grandparents. As a dedicated volunteer search angel with Adoption Search Australia, she has also resolved many cases for individuals searching for their biological roots.
In addition to DNA analysis, Carlina is experienced in tracing the family histories of New Zealand and Australian immigrants and deciphering historical documents (including archival and Māori Land Court records). Her work reflects a commitment to bringing families together, uncovering stories, and providing people with a sense of belonging and identity.
