Biography: I am Rebecca Spiers, a genealogist and researcher based in the Dandenong Ranges in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I have many years of experience in conducting genealogical research in Australia and abroad with an in depth knowledge of record sets, and more importantly where to find them. My background as an information services professional working in libraries, and my academic qualifications enables me to effectively and efficiently narrow searches to identify and obtain relevant records and information, (if extant) to meet client objectives.
I successfully achieved The Higher Certificate in Genealogy of The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury, Kent, UK.
Discovering new ancestors, connecting them to a particular time and place in history, and learning about their lives however humble, noble or notorious is my passion. I enjoy helping others to do the same by conducting research on their behalf, or by providing guidance and assisting clients to progress their own research. My approach is methodical and traditional, tracing lines of descent using civil and parish registers, extracting genealogical information from primary sources and original documents.
Services: I offer a tailored and individual research service providing a free assessment of your objectives, a research plan and an estimate of the costs involved. I prepare and write a concise and logical research report outlining the steps taken to progress research, with cited records, summaries of family members, and a pedigree chart. The report steps backward through time providing evidence of research meeting genealogical proof standards. I also provide a record searching and retrieval service to meet client requirements for research projects. Additionally, I can offer guidance to help clients get started with family history research, or to assist with existing research and brick walls.
