The Australasian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents (AAGRA) has been the peak body for professional genealogists and record agents in Australia and New Zealand since 1977. A genealogist manages research projects and compiles family histories and genealogies for clients, whereas record agents specialise in researching specific records and/or the holdings of specific archives.
In contrast, citizenship or passport consultants specialise in gathering the lineage and other documentary evidence needed to meet the legal requirements for citizenship claims of foreign countries. AAGRA members do not provide citizenship or passport consultancy services but may assist in documentation-gathering. The Immigration or Citizenship Department of your country of origin is the best starting point to learn the legal requirements for a successful claim.
The types of documents genealogists and record agents can assist with researching and sourcing include (but are not limited to):
• Birth, Death, and Marriage Certificates
• Naturalisation Records
• Census Records
• Baptismal or Church Records
• Military Service Records
• Land or Property Records
• Immigration or Emigration Records
If you require assistance with any of these (or similar) documents, please inspect our member directory to locate a genealogist or record agent specialising in your relevant geographical area in Australia or abroad.
